9th September 2025 was an exciting day for us. It’s been 21/2 years since Cyclone Gabrielle smashed through our region causing untold damage and washing away our bridge . We were lucky that we did have an alternative route (which added an extra 18km of unsealed road to navigate into us) as some families did not.
Our new replacement Doneraille bridge which connects us to both Gisborne and Wairoa has finally started and we couldn’t be happier.
It should take one year to complete so hopefully we will have our quick access back in September 2026.
